Heathrow Community Fund – Communities Together
The Communities Together awards are funded by Heathrow's passengers and Heathrow Community Fund.
The awards will help groups across the Heathrow area to start projects to support their community and improve their local environment with grants of up to £2,500 awarded four times per year.
The scheme is open to schools and community groups – this could be a youth club, residents association, charity, or even a group of like-minded neighbours.
The awards are funded in a unique way – foreign and British currency is donated every day by passengers in Heathrow’s baggage halls and departure lounges.
Heathrow Communities Together projects
Grants are made to exciting local community projects focused on two themes:
1. Protecting and enhancing our environment
You could improve a local pond, wood or communal garden; run a native flower or tree planting scheme in your street or a bird box building project.
Your project would need to consider conserving local habitats or increasing people’s awareness of them.
You may also need advice and support from other organisations in the area concerned with nature and wildlife conservation.
2. Bringing communities together
This could include
- an arts festival bringing members of the community together;
- a club to promote health and exercise;
- developing better access to fair trade products;
- play equipment;
- a healthy walk scheme or disabled access to a community facility.
The project would need to be sustainable and allow access for all members of the community.

The closing dates for 2013 applications are as follows:
- Round 1: 25th January 2013
- Round 2: 26th April 2013
- Round 3: 26th July 2013
